Rose City
Shopping Center (Project): Wasco, California Dull 1960’s strip mall on a small hiway between Bakersfield, Ca and the coast.
Developer and City wanted to recreate the look to draw in “drive by” traffic
Design Concept: create a “town square” , and to break down the façade from one long boring span to a variety of fresh individual shop facades.

The Promise
Christian Bookstore (Project): Because of Spiritual nature of
the product, limited space and maximum program, the process in which
the patron and the product connected was revised to allow a more
personalized service from the employee. Large, small and individual
venues for the patrons were provided to reflect or relax. Biblical
text was used as full window screen to minimize solar gain and
glare. In addition, the change in light throughout the day changes
the way the letters and words are perceived. Double-sided glass
faced fireplaces were used to create a warm and inviting atmosphere
inside as well as a form of Identification from the street.

The ICFG Tower
(Project): While owned solely by the Denomination and
predominantly occupied by the same, there is little or no
identification of that organization, and little if any redeeming
qualities of the look of the overall building. In examination of its
visibility in the community, the solution was to remove the existing
precast panels and replace them with glass treated similarly to the
Promise bookstore. In addition, each side of the tower would display
a Modern 2-Story-by-2-story “stained glass” image of one of the four
icons that represent the philosophy of the organization. Light
change from daylight to interior office-light throughout the day and
night will give this tower, the neighborhood and the City a new
icon. |

Johnson Dental
Office Tenant Improvement (In Construction, 2004): Considering
the apprehension that patients commonly feel towards going to the
dentist, the program called for a relaxing setting. A waterfall,
translucent walls with cast-in natural grasses and cable-hung
artwork were the main design elements that were used to attain that
end. |
